So far, the dimension of the bottom tube (oval tube between the two bottom brackets) was limited by the width of the bottom brackets, 73 mm. The new bottom bracket standard BB386 (86 mm case width) now makes larger dimensions possible. The now more stable bottom tube makes it possible to eliminate the lateral tube * while still having the same ride quality and lateral stiffness. This leads to a significant reduction in the frame weight. While Santana were making such radical changes to thair frame design they also adopted industry standard 1 1/2″ – 1 1/8″ tapered forks and 31.6 mm seatposts so owners can run any stem or seatpost they like
Of course, all Evolution tandems are also available with Santana's Z-Couplers for easy travel with the Safecase case.
The new standard equipment is equipped with the Ultegra Di2 2x11 drivetrain with a gear ratio that is comparable to the previous 3x10 drivetrain. Chainrings 34/50 alternatively 36/52 and 11-speed cassettes with 11-40 teeth, alternatively 11-42T (11-46T / 11-34 ...) and the rear 10 "disc brake Gen4 free of extra charge.

In a quest to develop the easiest tandem to own and use we created the Smooth. Clean, maintenance free belt drives and internal gearing mean it’s always ready to go for a trip into town or down the boardwalk. The perfect accessory for an RV or beach house, the whole family will want to get in on the fun. Two frame sizes each incorporate a telescoping stoker seatpost to accommodate a wide range of rider heights. Quality components and a butted 7000 series aluminum frame for lightweight durability. 26 x 1.5” tires are fast rolling but stable, puncture resistant, and comfortable.

Our custom tubeset starts with the strongest grade of aluminum, 7000 series, then adds scandium for increased strength and stiffness. This allows us to use very thin butted tubes for light weight and superior ride quality. The Bi-Laminate feature of the Team Scandium adds carbon seatstays and co-molded carbon/scandium down and bottom tubes for even lighter weight and vibration damping. Also available with our Z-Couplers for easy travel with the Safecase system.
We’re the only builder with access to a seamless double butted titanium tubeset engineered specifically for tandem use. Our frame delivers the lively magic carpet ride of titanium with the lateral stiffness needed for confident handling and at a lighter weight than the competition’s straight gauge frames. The Bi-Laminate feature of the Team Titanium adds carbon seatstays and co-molded carbon/titanium down and bottom tubes for even lighter weight and vibration damping.
Santana’s revolutionary Beyond welded carbon tandem frame weighs in at 6 pounds. The Beyond is not only 15–40% lighter than previous tandem frames built from carbon, titanium, or aluminum, it also establishes new standards for stiffness and comfort see our Technology discussion of Bi-Laminate damping™. Our Beyond technology combines the light weight and vibration damping of carbon with the lively ride of titanium. Constructed of tubing hand made in house and custom drawn tandem specific stays this represents the most elegant method of creating a tandem frame from carbon fiber. The PHD option adds diamond cutouts at the junctions and an exclusive internal layer of vibration absorbing polymer that turns chipseal roads into silk.
