Dear Tandem friends,
Welcome to the tandem meeting 2019 in the Aachen border triangle - in the heart of Europe!
The starting point for our tours is the Kasteel Vaalsbroek, a historic estate from the 13th century, which is now operated as a hotel. It is surrounded by meadows in a plain just below the border triangle, in the municipality Vaals on the Dutch side. The Aachen Cathedral, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just 8km away and Maastricht is around 25km away. Our tours take us through the Heuvelland (hill country) from Zuid Limburg to the Maas, through the foothills of the Ardennes in Belgium to the Eifel or along the German-Dutch border in the direction of the Lower Rhine. Of course, the summit finish on the highest point in the Netherlands with 322 mNN should not be missed. Typical of the tri-border region are the many small towns along the cycling routes, with their cafes and restaurants always invite to Printen, Limburgse Flan, Friet Speciaal or Belgian beer.
